Ski Instruction

lessons from a life on skis . . .

I know it sounds crazy but years and years ago, I actually learned to ski from a book,  Georges Joubert's French classic, Savoir Skier. I wouldn't recommend that route to anyone, but it gave me the confidence after many seasons of on-slope work with my students, to put my own ski teaching and ski learning ideas into words, into books, into articles for Powder and Skiing magazines, and ultimately also into this web site, breakthroughonskis.com. So in this part of my web site,  I've collected many of my best short ski-instruction stories and articles that you can access via the red links below.

On Slope instruction

I can still promise you, however, that nothing works better than time on the slopes with dedicated, skilled, and caring ski pros. The high point of my life as a ski-teaching pro was definitely the intensive total-saturation Breakthrough Ski Week program that I created and directed for ten years in Aspen and Snowmass with the best team of ski-teaching pros I ever worked with.  These same Aspen-Snowmass ski pros are still doing their thing, still working their magic, still teaching the Breakthrough-on-Skis progression we developed together, and still guiding skiers to new levels of performance and confidence.
