How is it possible to ski

the same mountain day after day

& love it very time?

How is it possible to embrace

the same woman night after night

& still love her every time?

Heraclitus had the answer

when he wrote: “You never

go down twice to the same river.”

For the river is changing, but

we are changing faster: skier

& lover are as new, or newer

than the snow is, than you are.

We have never met before nor

will we again. Already

we are others. There’s no love

here but only loving. Each run

defines a new mountain & each

new skier I become loves a new

woman who resembles you.
